Informs - Advises - Educates - Unbiased - Free Are you drowning in debt? Unable to pay your bills on time or at all? Getting angry telephone calls and letters? Worried over the future? Learn how to cope, to regain solvency and control your personal or business finances F.A.Q (Frequently asked questions) Here are answers to questions about the Down with Debt web site, if after reading this and looking over the rest of the site you still have questions or queries you can Q Why should I use this site? A. The Down with Debt site is impartial, giving down to earth and practical tips and advice about dealing with both minor and major debt problems for UK residents of all ages. Debt is a growing problem as more and people overspend due to hardship reasons, which they may or may not have control over, or pure selfish "I want it now" reasons. UK consumers owe BILLIONS of pounds and debt problems have risen over 45% in the last 5 years (CAB Report) and things are getting worse. Consumer age groups range from students through families to the retired and seniors. Q How does the site differ from other Debt Services? A. Many other debt services charge a fee to help you organise your debt problems often making agreements with your creditors for them to be paid by the debt management firm. In turn you pay a single sum to the management firm which include a monthly fee for them. In reality you could negotiate the same terms yourself with your creditor and save both time and money. Other debt solutions include taking out secured loans or a remortgage against your home, this can mean you pay over a long period for what are in reality short term debts. Whilst such solutions seem to fix debt problems by reducing monthly costs the time scale is much extended and do not address the root cause of debt problems which can reoccur later adding to a major, more serious debt problem. Q How does the site differ from the Citizens Advice Bureau? A. Whilst CAB provides and excellent and free face to face debt counselling service from it's offices across the UK, the waiting time to see a counsellor can be lengthy. CAB is a general consumers service and debt counselling is one of a wide range of services it offers to the public. Like many such bodies it suffers from under funding and understaffing to cope with the demand on it's services. http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/ Q Who can you run a free web service as a public service? A - We are a small UK web service company with several other successful web sites, and our own servers. We make some income from ads on the site to defray costs but there is no membership or other fee. Lots of people get into debt voluntary as a result of self induced problems, others through no direct fault of their own, or as a result of legal, society or other changes. In reality many of the debt problems are similar so it is easier to look at a single web based location for advice and case studies of people like you who have learned to cope with debt. Enjoy the information and tell any friends who may need ideas to help them with any debt problems they may have. |
